Been Doing a Little Shopping!

My husband has been trying to talk me into getting a new computer for quite a while now. I finally broke down last night and did it. I felt so guilty at first, but I'm over it now.

I have so many files and programs that I've been dreading the task of transferring it all. Not only do I have all the graphic files for my business, I have a gazillion photos and my digital scrapbooking hobby. So now I begin the daunting task of loading the new one.

I normally upgrade about every two years but this computer has been with me for almost four. I was thinking about my very first laptop (I always buy laptops) I bought in 2000. It had 32 MB of memory, 4 GB hard drive, and the processor was like, heck I can't even remember that number! Oh yah, and the screen, was 12".  The salesman said I'd never need more than that!

Do you remember your first computer?

  1. Yes. It was a desktop HP Pavilion 12 years ago. I love desktops. It had lots of bundled programs which you don't find much today. My sister bought a laptop and it didn't even have an office suite on it.

Congrats on your new laptop and good luck with your migration.

  2. I got my first computer around 1983 or '84 before anyone had heard of laptops! It was an IBM. Ah memories! Congrats on your new machine -- enjoy!

  3. Yes, I sure do remember my first computer, a HP desktop with a huge monitor... the size of an old TV! lol!

  4. Congrats! Getting new technology is always exciting! We got my first computer when I was in sixth grade. It was a clunky, incredibly slow desktop, but I was so impressed with it at the time - it only took me 45 minutes to download a song!

  5. I hope the transfer goes smoothly! 4 years is a long time in the world of technology. Since you use graphics so much you really needed to buy this. I hope you enjoyed Panera guilt free too!

  8. The transfer process can be overwhelming, but I know that you'll really enjoy your new computer! My first laptop was also from about 2000. It actually still runs, it just doesn't have enough memory and whatnot to do everything that I need to do online these days.

  9. I don't like fiddling with all that tech-y stuff. but when it's all working like a dream, it's lovely!
Good luck with all the transferring!

  10. Sounds like lots of fun. I enjoy getting a new computer with more power and more memory, but not the setup.

Oh yea, I remember our first computer. Back when all programs were started by C\:, it was a used computer with a huge anchor monitor that took up the whole desk. Several family-shared computers later, I finally got my very own 17" laptop and I just love it!

  11. I know what you mean about the pain of transferring files and software and setting up a new computer. It's rather like moving house, isn't it? So much of our lives are on computers these days it feels like that anyway. But you'll be glad when it's done. :)

  12. My very first computer was a gateway desk top. I use an external hard drive for all my picture files and things I use for photoshop. Saves my computer from getting too cluttered up.
    Congrats on the new purchase.

  14. My first was a gateway. My parents have it so my niece can play games but I am not sure it really works anymore. Sad how quickly they go.

I need to do what Ann does and get an external hard drive.
