Silicone Bakeware

Have you tried any of the silicone bakeware yet? Since it first came out I've been playing a little with it. Some I found that I love, others lasted about a month in my kitchen before I got rid of it.

I've discovered that I wasn't fond of the type that you actually bake in. I tried several varieties of these and although they cooked evenly and nothing got stuck, I didn't like the way they didn't come clean. I could never get the gunked on cooking spray off. I tossed them.

What I do love are the utensils! My personal favorite is the little spatula. It's only about 7 inches long but I use it for everything that I can spread or scrape for small places. The little brush is handy as well. The whisk, I'm not a fan of, but Brian likes it for making his pudding. I prefer my nice, top quality chef's whisk that is made from stainless steel. The little heart shaped muffin cups are super handy. They are great for saving broth, sauces, frosting, and gravies that I can't use up before they go bad. I just pour the above into them, freeze, then remove, and bag. The individual muffin cups are fine to bake in because they clean up  nicely.

Have you tried any of them? Do you have any favorites?

  1. I'm with you. I tried cupcake cups and didn't like them for baking. My muffins stuck (maybe I forgot the spray!). Freezing in them is a good idea. I do like my silicone basting brush very much.

  2. I hadn't tried any of the silicone bakeware items yet. And from the sounds of it, I'm glad I didn't buy any. =) I have tried a couple of the utensils, and I do like the ones I've tried. Just like Sweet Posy Dreams, my silicone basting brush is a favorite!

  3. Not a fan of the bakeware, but my daughter is so I gave them to her. I do love the spatulas, and the brushes!

An idea for those cute muffin cups....individual servings of jello/ jello desserts. Mini banana puddings...you get the idea ;)

  4. I haven't tried any of them. I don't know why but I just have a hard time with the idea of putting something like that in the oven. It just doesn't seem right....lol

  7. I have a pan that holds 6 mini heart cakes. I used it for Valentine's this year (had it for about 5 years before using). I love it. It came out clean and I will use it again. Something about it though makes seem like it is not clean. I really scrubbed before its first use!

I have not seen the utensils. I am with you on the whisk. I like the commercial grades whisks! I like it that that can be squeezed flat and cleaned very well.

  8. My daughter has an oven mitt that is silicon which works well. I think I bought her the muffin pan too, but haven't heard how she likes it. This material is fun to look at and handle. I just wonder about the safety of cooking in plastic.

  12. A friend gave me some little cupcakes cups, but I have to admit I haven't used them. Maybe I'll use them to freeze stuff in like you did. Good to know about the oil spray not washing off.
