Eastern Screech Owl

Are you tired of owls yet? This guy arrived at the clinic last night. DNR found it injured and brought it in. We'll see what we can do for the little guy. Isn't he just the cutest?

It's an Eastern Screech Owl. I've seen lots of the grey ones, but this is the first rust colored one I've seen. A lot of people mistaken them for babies because they are so tiny. If you  ever try to handle one, you'll soon find out that this adult owl has a strong beak and sharp talons!

Soon spring will get here, and we'll be getting in all the orphaned babies from birds and bunnies, to foxes and deer! One thing about my job, I never know what I'm going to see from day to day.

  8. Have never seen an owl that colour before - but it's great that I now have! Am planning to include an owl among the new ColdhamCuddlies family soon, and have some plush fabric that would look fab using him as a model! Keep a look-out on my blog at www.ColdhamCuddliescalling.blogspot.com in the coming weeks. Can't wait to try out a new pattern that has just arrived via my daughter!

All the best handling the baby critters as they come in - hope you don't have too many!

  14. Sher - any chance you could let me have a copy of that pic - for when I get round to making the plush owls I talked about earlier? I would then have a reminder of what he ought to look like, even if it's not a doppelganger! Please send it to coldhamcuddlies@tiscali.co.uk and I can then print it off. Thanks a million in advance.

  15. What a fun job you have! I think owls are very cute and would never tire of seeing them. Thanks for following my updates about my dog, Abby, who was attacked while on her walk. She's doing great and is now up to hour walks once again. It's a miracle she survived at all and is doing so well so soon!
