An Important Message

Hello Humans! As many of you know, our Mom works with animals for a living. She sees many bad, bad things that can be prevented. Last week one of her patients died from heat stroke. Unfortunately it won't be the last death from the heat she will see during this hot, hot summer.

We would like to take a moment to remind everyone that we don't perspire like you do. We can't cool ourselves off as easily as you do, and once our body temperature reaches a certain point, we will either die, or have permanent brain and organ damage. So keep us safe by limiting our time outdoors when it's hot, and give us lots of water. For our animal friends that must stay outside, make sure they have a well shaded area as well as lots of water. Maybe you can even bring them into the house or the garage when it's super hot.

You know how much we love car rides. We do, but if you have to leave us even just for a few minutes, leave us at home. Even with the windows partially rolled down, a car will become and oven in just a few minutes.

Mom said that her blogging friends are all animal lovers who would never put their animals in danger. So maybe you can share this information with everyone you know who might not know otherwise.

Have a safe and happy summer!

Arf & meow from Bubba & Punkie.

PS...Extra treats are a nice summer idea too!

  1. Hi Bubba and Punkie,

Your mom is really sweet and caring for having you post this.

My furbabies come and go at will. They have their own doors. They spend most of their time in the house. Boxers can't take too much heat or cold. Mine are especially spoiled and loved.

In the summer months (and sometimes spring, too!) I don't even let them go for a quick trip to the C store. I'm sure they don't understand why they can't go, but better safe than sorry!

I did a post similar to this April 19th on my Tumblr blog. You can check it out here: http://boxersarelikethat.tumblr.com/page/2

  2. This is a great reminder! We make sure not to let Harley outside for long when it's really hot and only take short car rides (to the v-e-t). He also has his own doggie pool :)
Your mommy has a hard job, but we're glad she takes care of all the animals :)

  4. Hello little friends! This is a great reminder. We don't have any pets of our own, but it still makes us sad when we see poor animals waiting for their owners in the car on hot days. Running inside "just for a minute" always takes longer than people think.

  5. Thanks for the information. I work in a veterinary hospital too and it is very important to inform others, who may not be aware of these dangers. We must keep our pets safe and healthy! They depend on us.

  6. HEARTBROKEN!!! My rescue pup is very mad that he cannot go for car rides with me in the summer for quick errand runs. I need him to read this blog ;)

  7. Great info. Our spoiled cat, Tux, stays indoors in air-conditioned comfort.

  8. It angers me when I see dogs left in vehicles during the summer when it is over 100 degrees while they are eating in a restaurant or buying groceries. I want to find the owners and ask them how they would like to be cooped up in an oven. Horrible.

  10. A very good reminder this time of year. Duke never goes in the car with us if we will be going anywhere that he can't get out with us even in cold weather. Fortunately for him he has a cool basement to stay in while we are at work. I always hate seeing dogs left in cars while people are shopping. So sad that you lost a patient

  15. This is very good advice Bubba and Punkie! Our mommy gets furious when she sees animals left inside a car or out in the heat with no shade or water. We can't believe some people are so stupid as to do that but obviously they are. We stay inside all day but mommy puts water out for the introoder neighbor cats although they can easily get into their own garage for food and water. She's just a worry wart.
