The Storm is Rolling In

After several months of above average temperatures and no rain, we really got hit on Tuesday. The ride to work was horrific! The rain was coming down so hard, branches were all over the place, and roads were flooding fast! As quickly as it started, it also quickly passed. It did manage to pick up our (brand new) table umbrella and whip it over the house and all the way out to the street. There's no hope for it now. During the umbrella's flight, it managed to plow into our satellite dish and knock us off the network! Unfortunately we can't get a man out here until Friday.

But what about my show I watch every night? What about my end of the night TV viewing with a glass of wine? OK, where there's a will, there's a way, right? And could this have worked out more perfectly?

I remembered that we all have access to HULU! Yes, Hulu saves the day in more ways than one. I could still watch all my favorite shows! They run a day later but that's not only OK, it works out for the better. As some of you know, I've been back on my quest for good health. One of my biggest struggles is exercise. A couple years ago we bought a Precor Elliptical, but I find it BORING! Since the storm has made me watch my daily show a day late, I can now watch it anytime of day instead of waiting until 8:00. So I now watch it while on the elliptical with my 17" screen laptop. It sits right on the ledge.

As for the end of the day relaxing time, I created a cozy little space on my super comfy couch, watching Hulu with my laptop on the coffee table. It's not like watching it on the 57" screen, but it will do until the satellite is fixed.

So I may have lost a $49 umbrella and four days of the big screen TV, but I gained a new healthy habit. Good trade-off!

Photo Above: There were no other cars around me on my way to work so I stopped to get a pic of the storm that I was heading into. I swear it looked worse than it does in the photo.

  1. Nice photo! Sorry about the new umbrella though, especially since it caused damage on it's way over the house. Good job on the exercise!!! It is so hard to get back into. :)

  2. I'm curious to know now, what is your show? Glad to hear you didn't have any damage to your house (apart from the umbrella and satellite dish). I think the storm was a blessing in disguise.

  4. We so need rain. We have had many 3 digits temperature days in a row, but I am in Oklahoma, par for the course! My iphone shows that it should rain today... Obviously the weather and the iphone aren't communicating! LOL

Sorry about your umbrella and dish. BUt at least you found another way to enjoy your time! Healthy too!

  5. We got rain last night...woohoo!
Glad you got rain, but sorry it had to come with such a storm! The town next to us lost power, but luckily we didn't get hit near as hard.
Great idea to watch hulu while you exercise :)

  6. Sorry about your umbrella! Good that you can still see your favorite show and relax with a glass of wine. :) The exercise... GOOD for you! Watching something while exercising makes it go faster. I really need to do better in that area, be more consistent with exercising, my problem is finding the time!!

Great picture of the storm, I know what you mean though, it's always difficult to capture what it really looked like. We had a bad storm hit last night too, sounded like a tree hit our house at one point... But thankfully that didn't happen. LOTS of debris everywhere this morning. We sure need more rain, but I can do without all the WIND and lightening.

  8. I love a good downpour! No watering the lawn :) It's scary when the wind picks things up and blows them away, and breaks tree branches. Glad everyone is ok, and that you have a new healthy habit from it!

  10. I bet that was the same storm that came by our house at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. It was a fast mover. We only lost small branches, but a number of people in town were without power all day and large trees and limbs were down all around town. Unfortunately, not too much rain with it since it went through so fast.

  11. Sounds like a scary storm! I live right near the water so it's always windy during storms and umbrellas just don't cut it. they always break!

  13. That's an amazing photo. I grew up in Pennsylvania and I miss having storms...we almost never get them here in Portland.

  14. I am not sure how many umbrellas we have owned only for them to bite the dust because of wind. Glad you got rain and bit of exercise;)

  15. I love Hulu! That is actually the only thing we have, so we don't even have to pay for cable! I'm really glad someone came up with that idea.

We also got rain -- finally!! Temps dropped, and we were able to open windows to let in some cool fresh air.
