Deep Woods Off & Another Goal Met


It was only about three to four years ago when I was in the best physical shape of my entire life. I've recently made a commitment to myself to get back there.

I have set lots of mini goals for myself on this quest to good health. One of them was to get our annual pass to the Indiana Dunes State Park and get back on the hiking trails, which we did. The next one was to make it to the water's edge on Trail 9 (that's what I call it) in less than 40 minutes. We did it in 35 minutes this morning. As you can see in the photo above, it's so worth the view once you get there. I was sweating, and times it was a struggle to meet my time, but we did it! I have several other little goals to meet before reaching my final goal for fitness, which is to once again master Trail 8 without stopping once.

I hope I don't bore you all with healthy recipes, and beautiful photos of my hiking at various places. But I know that I've done this before and I have a good feeling about it. 

As for the Deep Wood's Off, it is my new best friend! We had some old stuff in the trunk the last couple of times we were on trails and we were still attacked. I bought some fresh cans and what a difference! So we keep a can in each car, and a pocket sized one in our pockets. No bug will get in our way!

I'm so glad my husband likes hiking too!

  5. What a beautiful view! Exercise is more fun with a buddy, so how nice that you and your hubby both enjoy hiking! I want to get back on the bike trails once the temps fall below 95.

  7. I often get overwhelmed by the feeling that I'll never be able to get back into shape, but setting mini-goals is a great way to have little successes on the way to big success. Your photos are beautiful and healthy recipes should be shared, so "bore" away!

  8. Hiking sounds like a wonderful form of exercise! I loathe the gym, but have made dancing my form of cardio which is way more fun!

  9. Hiking does not switch me on, but dog-walking can do. Have recently been doing just that with the newly acquired canine Grand daughter. Blogged about her last night (after a couple of months away from the blogging scene) so you may be interested in visiting us at www.ColdhamCuddliescalling.blogspot.com sometime when you're not getting fit yourself. Incidentally, for nearly 3 weeks I was walking some 3 miles a day (or rather I was being walked!): whilst I feel I've lost inches, I've not lost an ounce! Hmm.... wonder what I'm doing wrong?

  15. Wow, you are a girl after my own heart! I LOVE hiking. Haven't been doing much of it since it's been so stinking hot this summer! I need to make a commitment to go a LOT this fall!

  17. I spent a lot of my childhood at Indiana Dunes. That was the place to go during the summer when I lived in IL.
