50 Year Young Woman Nearly Has Heart Attack

Last night I turned on the light over the back deck like I always do before letting Bubba out. We live out in the country and there is always some sort of animal in our yard, usually deer (or a herd of them), and recently a skunk. The skunk would be a bad encounter and since the deer have fawns, they can be quite protective and my little Yorkie thinks he's a rottweiler and would chase them.

You all remember my spider from a couple of nights ago? Well, if you don't, it's in the upper left corner of the image above. When I turned on the light I saw her there just like every night. She was so busy at work and moving quite quickly around her web. As I look closer I see a praying mantis walking along the upper edge of my patio door. Naturally I grabbed my camera (you all know I would do that) to get a picture. I opened the door to get a closer shot and something jumped in my  hair!
Now remember, my eye was on the praying mantis and not on the spider. I quickly flipped it out of my hair and it was a katydid, not the spider after all. Thank God! I have to tell you, it sure is a good thing I didn't have a full bladder! Imagine what was going through my mind when I thought the spider was in my hair!
It was so much fun trying to get that katydid out of the house. And how odd to have three such big and interesting insects in one spot at the same time!

  2. Glad it was just a katydid in your hair! I would freak out if I thought there was a spider on me!

Our Pomeranian thinks he's seven foot tall too :)

  3. I have a praying mantis, on my back porch, now too. While I know they bite the thought of a spider in my hair would bother me more! Glad you survived and weren't bitten. :)

  4. I am frightened of praying mantis' One night I cam home from grocery and there on the ceiling of my porch were an entire herd of them. I had to go thru the back door with groceries.

On Friday I was at or new church building and my son was there doing some work for us. He flung something towards me on the floor. I looked down and said is it dead? It was not. It was a tarantula. LOL

    Have a great Tuesday!

  7. Thanks for stopping by my blog and saying "Hey!" I laughed as I read this post. I have woods behind my house so you can only imagine the critters we encounter. I've had a lifelong paralyzing fear of spiders. Had my arm in a cast for 6 weeks a few years back after an encounter with one of those big hairy ones!I recently had a katydid walk up my torso while sitting on the deck in the dark. Luckily, most of my neighbors weren't yet in bed when I screamed!

  8. Cute post.
I am not a fan of spiders and their webs.

I got caught in one of those giant webs between two trees....my arms went flailing like a mad woman. Ugh..I hate those webs! I had my husband look me over for spiders 5 times!!! lol.

    Have a great day.

  9. EEEEEK! I'd freak too! Actually I did freak this past week when a smallish black fuzzy spider fell on me while taking some meat to the grill. I can't believe I didn't drop the meat!

  10. Yikes! I don't care how far out in the country you are, if it were me, you'd hear my screams in the next state! That's so cool that you could be calm enough to take pictures for us to see.

  13. I would have been freaking out if any one of the three had jumped in my hair. I'm ok with them as long as they don't land on me :)
